Of Sealife and Culture
There is a very old expression that says “a fish rots from the head down”. While the origin of the phrase appears to be lost in time, it basically says that if an organization or state fails, it is due to its leadership.
It is a given that most highly successful businesses succeed largely because of their corporate culture. Corporate culture refers to the beliefs and behaviors that determine how a company’s management and employees relate to one another and to their clients.
Does everyone share the same vision and values? Does everyone have an understanding and sense of ownership of that vision and those values? Are employees as invested in succeeding as the management and owners might be?
If responsibility for healthy fish ultimately lies at the feet of leadership, it stands to reason that establishing a successful culture falls there too.
How do you lead? How will you lead today?
